Sometimes, insurance may cover psychotherapy costs. The terms and practices of insurances are different depending on the insurance company and the type of the insurance. For example, according to Pohjola’s insurance terms concerning an accident, compensating costs requires that psychotherapy has been started within three months of the accident. The costs will be compensated for the part of therapy that has been given within six months of the accident.
Before coming in for treatment, please check your insurance terms or contact your insurance company to find out how psychotherapy is compensated. Psychotherapy compensated by insurance is usually invoiced as follows: a) in the case of voluntary insurances, which include private accident, home and medical expense insurances, the treatment appointments are paid by invoice after the treatment period has ended and then the client will apply for compensation from the insurance company. For statutory insurances (occupational accident and traffic insurances), the treatment can be invoiced directly from the insurance company, if the company has given us a verification for this (such as insurance agreement).
Commitment of expenditure
Psychotherapy can be invoiced from a third party (such as an employer) if we have received a commitment of expenditure from the payer.
Cancelling a booked appointment
Cancellation of a booked appointment must be made at least two full days before the start of the appointment. Later cancellations or missed appointments will be charged in full based on the length of the booked appointment. If you or your child is sick, you may cancel the appointment without charge by providing us with a copy of the doctor’s report. Please note that Kela or HUS do not compensate for missed appointments; the client must pay for them in full.
